Connotations (Mvt IV) was performed in February by the Puget Sound Piano Trio on their concert at the University of Puget Sound, and again at the recent Society of Composers National Conference. Symphony No. 2 will be premiered in San Diego, CA, by the SDSU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Michael Gerdes, on October 15. This 25-minute, two movement work was commissioned by Michael for the orchestra. Subtitled "Vana," the Sanskrit word for forest, it is the first in a series of works inspired by Earth's endangered ecosystems. More about the piece, and a video, will be posted later.
Reef, a new commissioned work for L+M Duo, will be premiered at the James Madison University Contemporary Music Festival on October 25. L+M Duo consists of Laurel Black, marimba, and Marianne Parker, piano.
